Day Two Recap: July 30th, 2022

Game Six: San Juan, TX 7, Smithfield, VA 17


Two big offensive innings for Smithfield, VA gave them the win over San Juan, TX.


Smithfield, VA got on the board in the top of the first, scoring on a passed ball. San Juan, TX tied the game 1-1 with a run on a fielder’s choice.


In the top of the second inning, Smithfield’s offense came alive. The scoring started on a ground out. Two singles and doubles back-to-back made it an 8-1 game. 


Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fourth inning. San Juan cut Smithfield’s lead to 8-3 on two singles.


After stealing third, Smithfield responded with another run to take a 9-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning.


A triple by San Juan’s Ayden Guajardo made it a 9-4 score at the end of the fifth.


Smithfield put up an impressive eight runs in the top of the seventh inning. Colton Bingham tripled as the lead batter and scored on a wild pitch. A ground out added another. A single made the game 13-4. Up at-bat again, Bingham doubled on a fly ball to right field tallying another two runs. A single wrapped up Smithfield’s scoring, making the score 17-4.


In the bottom of the seventh, two doubles from San Juan accumulated three runs, but it was not enough to pull out a win. Smithfield moves on after winning 17-4.

Game Seven: Laredo, TX 0, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 17


Kaohsiung City, Taiwan started strong on offense, but a 12-run inning in the sixth pushed them past Laredo, TX for a score of 17-0.


An error by Laredo put Kaohsiung City on the board, but they increased their lead to 3-0 on a single and a wild pitch.


They expanded their lead to 4 runs to nothing on a double by Hao-Ning Kong in the top of the third.


In the fourth, another double from Kaohsiung City made it a 5-0 game.


The top of the seventh inning saw 12 runs from Kaohsiung City. They scored runs on five doubles, a fly ball, a walk, a single and a passed ball.


All game, Laredo was unable to score, making the final score 17-0.

Game Eight: Tijuana, MX 0, Placentia, CA 6


Neither team scored in the first three innings, but Placentia CA, scored enough to beat Tijuana, MX.


Both defenses started strong, but Placentia was able to score in the top of the fourth inning. A double scored Placentia their first two runs, with a ground out providing a third run to take a 3-0 lead.


Placentia did not score again until the top of the seventh inning. A ground out to right field set up the opportunity to score two runs. A single right after created a 6-0 lead to win the game.
